France is no longer the world's largest wine market
France has lost its first place on the world’s wine market. In 2013, the most wine in the world was consumed in the United States – the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) announced on Tuesday.
While Americans bought 0.5 percent more, 29.1 million hectoliters of wine, year on year, in France, wine consumption fell by 7 percent to 28.1 million hectoliters in 2013. Due to the difference between the two countries’ population, the per capita consumption is still six times more in France, where an average is almost 1.5 bottles (8.92 dl) wine is consumed per person per week.
