Back-to-school sales are already starting in large supermarkets
The start of the new school year is only a month away, and Hungarian families are already facing the significant financial burden of starting school. The purchase of school equipment can exceed HUF 50,000 per child, especially for those whose children are just starting primary school or who require digital devices for learning. Although the burden of purchasing textbooks has been lifted from the shoulders of families in most institutions, the purchase of other school supplies still involves serious expenses.
Preparation for the new school year
The academic year 2024/25 starts on 2 September and ends on 20 June 2025. Educational institutions started delivering textbooks as early as August 1, and parents and students are preparing for the start of the school year in September. Schools could choose from more than 2,200 textbooks from a total of 42 publishers, including nearly 200 new textbooks developed by the Office of Education.
Promotions and savings opportunities
It is reassuring news for Hungarian families that supermarket chains such as ALDI, Lidl, Penny, Tesco and Spar are preparing for the start of school with significant sales. FMCG chains traditionally offer customers a wide selection of various school supplies and stationery. This year, it is particularly important for families how affordable these devices can be obtained, as price sensitivity plays an increasingly important role in customer decisions.
