Pig prices are already edging up
The Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) continuously monitors and publishes world trends in poultry and meat products. Their last report reveals that the European pig market seems to calm down after the dioxin crisis.
By the end of January the abattoir entry price of slaughter pig in the ‘E’ trading category grew by 1.2 percent on the market of the European Union. In Hungary 13 percent more broiler chicken was purchased from breeders this January than a year earlier – in the same period live weight production price increased by 12.5 percent. Domestic chicken meat sales expanded by 4.5 percent in January. The production price of slaughter turkey was 6 percent higher in January 2011 than a year before.
