15 Dead in Food Poisoning in Canada
Fifteen deaths in Canada have now been linked to listeriosis, health officials confirmed. There are another 29 suspected cases, officials told reporters, and Agriculture Minister said the government expected more cases in coming days.
The Public Health Agency of Canada said
six of the 15 deaths have been connected to the particular bacteria
strain found at Maple Leaf Foods, and it is a factor in nine other
deaths still under investigation.
Maple Leaf plant in Toronto associated
with the outbreak will not distribute meat until the Canadian Food
Inspection Agency determines it is safe.
Maple Leaf shares closed
10 percent lower at C$8.80 ahead of the announcement of the latest
deaths.
