Already 120 Lidl stores can drop off used cooking oil
Last spring, Lidl Hungary launched its used cooking oil recycling initiative, in the framework of which customers can deposit selectively collected used cooking oil and grease in the collection containers located at the stores, free of charge and safely. Over the past year, the company has continuously expanded the number of its stores with collection points, so currently 120 stores have the option of separate collection.
Used cooking oil and fat can be extremely harmful and dangerous for the environment. Poured down the drain, it damages the sewer network, complicates wastewater treatment, gets into nature and pollutes our water bases, and when placed in municipal waste, it appears as a material that is difficult to decompose. However, it can be 100% utilizable if treated with the right procedure, so it is very important to collect it selectively and drop it off at the collection islands designated for this purpose. Lidl Hungary also supports the collection, the company already provides storage containers for customers at 120 stores. The positive reception of the service is shown by the fact that almost 30 tons of used cooking oil and used grease have been placed in the storage facilities since its launch.
Promoting responsible waste management and the circular economy is extremely important for the supermarket chain.
