National hailstorm protection system operational from May
NAK organised a press conference in Dunaharaszti to introduce how the national hailstorm protection system works. The system will be operational from 1 May 2018. NAK president Balázs Győrffy told: in the last 35 years about 20 percent of agricultural damage was caused by hailstorms. The new nationwide system, which shoots silver iodide into the air if necessary, will protect 32-33 forints of production value with every forint invested in it. It cost HUF 2 billion to build the system and annual operation will be possible from HUF 1.5 billion by the state. Each year HUF 50-billion worth of crops will be saved by using the system. //
