The growth of Czech retail sales slowed down in May
Retail sales in the Czech Republic increased for the sixth month in May, but the rate of growth slowed to 4.4 percent from 5.7 percent in April, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Thursday in Prague.
The traffic in May was 0.1 percent lower than in April.
Jana Gotvaldová, director of the statistical office, told journalists at a press conference that “the increase in retail turnover in May was mainly due to the increase in the turnover of mixed-offer stores, mainly grocery stores, online stores, and parcel delivery services.”
In an annual comparison, the turnover of general stores was 4.9 percent higher in May, and the turnover of internet stores and mail order services was 14.5 percent higher than a year ago, explained Jana Gotvaldová.
