Retail trade continued to decline in May
According to the communication of the Central Statistical Office; the volume of retail trade turnover in the first five months of 2009 was smaller with 3.6 percent and in May by 4.2 percent, compared to the same period the previous year.
In May, compared to the previous month there was a 0.5 percent decline in retail trade.
Fourty-seven percent of retail sales was food, fifteen percent was fuel and thirteen percent were furniture, household appliances, construction materials. The food sales in 2009 January-May decreased by 2.6 percent and in May fell by 2.3 percent compared to the same period the previous year – reports Central Statistical Office (KSH).
