In May, annual inflation in the Czech Republic decreased to 2.6 percent from 2.9 percent in April, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Prague.
The decrease in inflation was mainly influenced by the decrease in food prices. On the other hand, housing costs increased – the statistical office pointed out. In a monthly comparison, the prices did not change, they remained at the level of April, they noted.
Among the basic foodstuffs, flour and eggs cost 23.5 percent less than last year, the price of meat decreased by 5.8 percent, and that of fruit by 6.7 percent. The price of non-alcoholic soft drinks increased by 4 percent, but the increase was lower than in the previous period.
Overall, the price of services rose by 0.9 percent in May and by 5.3 percent year-on-year.
