About two million tons of food waste is produced in Hungary every year
The former president of the republic, János Áder, chairman of the board of trustees of the Kék Bolygó Climate Protection Foundation, drew attention to the environmental dangers of unjustified consumption and the importance of waste recycling on Wednesday in Siófok. At the same time, he announced the school competition for the collection of used batteries and mobile phones.
In his presentation to the students of the Siófok Vocational Training Center as part of the sustainability theme week, the former head of state said that according to surveys, thirty percent of the goods purchased were never used, and in Hungary, about two million tons of food waste is generated every year.
He explained that 63 million tons of electronic waste is expected to be generated globally in 2024, and this amount will increase to 74.7 million tons by 2030. Mobile phones contain more gold than the rock containing the precious metal, and it is much more environmentally friendly to produce gold from used devices than during mining, he noted.
