Hungary was the most successful in the World Championship of Italian Rieslings; Hungarian wines won 8 platinum, 48 gold, 54 silver and 47 bronze medals at the Grow du Monde competition held in Balatonfüred from Monday to Friday.
This year, more wines than ever before were nominated for the third edition of Grow du Monde, the international jury judged 349 wines from 7 countries, the organizers told MTI on Saturday.
Winners were announced in five categories at the competition. The best young Italian Riesling is Vino Gaube Laski Rizling 2023 (Slovenia), the best aged Italian Riesling is Vinartsví No. 44 Dunajovsky Vlasák Pasák 2022 (Czech Republic), the best sweet Italian Riesling is Galic Grasevina Mateo Izborna berba 2018 (Croatia), the best orange /natural wine was Vina Joannes Natura 2021 (Slovenia), while the best Italian Riesling-based blend was Figula Pincészet Olasz&Furmint 2021 (Hungary).
In the medals table of the nations, Hungary finished first, the second most successful Czech Republic (3 platinum, 7 gold, 5 silver) and the third was Slovenia (3 platinum, 1 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze), but Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia and Italian producers have also won numerous medals.
