Hungary bans the import of agricultural products from Ukraine
The government is committed to representing the interests of the Hungarian farming community, which is why, in the absence of meaningful EU measures, it will temporarily ban the importation of grain and oilseeds originating from or coming from Ukraine, as well as several other agricultural products into Hungary, as in Poland, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced.

The head of the ministry explained that the continuation of the current market processes would cause such serious damage to Hungarian agriculture that extraordinary measures must be put in place to stop them. With production practices that are no longer allowed in the European Union, and as a result, with extremely low production costs, Ukrainian agriculture, with full duty-free and free trade opportunities, began to export to the European market, in addition to grain and oilseeds, large quantities of poultry, eggs and honey, which made it impossible the sales opportunities of domestic and Central European farmers, he added.
The ban lasts until now
He emphasized that the restriction of imports to Hungary is temporary and lasts until June 30, 2023, which may be enough time to take meaningful and lasting EU measures, to reconsider the full duty-free nature of Ukrainian goods, and the operation of the solidarity corridors. The actors of agriculture expect fair market conditions for European agriculture from the European Union. The Hungarian government always stands by Hungarian farmers and protects Hungarian agriculture, the head of the ministry emphasized.
