Research: We would spend less than 200,000, but the brand – Hungarians and mobile shopping – still matter
The majority of Hungarians buy a new phone when the previous one breaks down, they spend around HUF 200,000 on the purchase, and the brand and the camera are important considerations. MediaMarkt and Opinio’s representative online research asked the population about domestic mobile phone purchasing habits. The survey also reveals that young people increasingly like to shop in technical stores, almost everyone buys a case, but very few take out insurance for their device.
According to a previous study by MediaMarkt, nearly 80 percent of Hungarians spend more than 3 hours a day in front of a screen, and many more hours at work. Although we spend a significant part of our work and leisure time looking at the screen, we still do not place enough emphasis on buying a mobile phone. The technical store’s recent representative research for July 2024 shows that there is room for improvement in the field of conscious shopping and the protection of our mobile devices. According to the current survey, 60% of Hungarians buy a new mobile phone when the old one breaks or breaks, but relatively many (12%) look for a new device after the loyalty period has expired. Only 9% said that they buy a new one because they are “bored” of the previous one, and 4% of respondents switch because they always want to have the most modern technology in their pocket.
It is interesting that people with a lower education insist more on buying a new phone every 1-2 years, even if the previous one has problems. 27% of the eight general graduates, 25% of the vocational graduates do so, while only 11% of the graduates do so.
