Hungarian Tourist Agency: busójárás brought full houses to Mohács accommodations
Busójárás brought a full house to the hotels in Mohács, the busójárás that ended this week attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the city on the Danube again this year, the effect of the series of events from the last Thursday of the carnival until Shrove Tuesday on tourist traffic is indicated by the fact that more than half of the total February traffic in Mohács took place this weekend , the hotels owed almost 60 percent of their income to this event last year – the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) told MTI on Friday.
In the announcement, it is recalled that the folk custom of welcoming winter and spring is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage, and since 2012 it has also been added to the list of Hungarian customs. Although it can be seen primarily as a cultural asset, its touristic impact is also outstanding, as it gives a significant boost to the city’s traffic in February every year.
During the busójárás, which took place between February 8 and 13 this year, nearly 84 percent room capacity utilization was measured in private and other accommodations. And the weekend of the busójárás is significantly higher than the visitor traffic of a high season long weekend of August 20. This year, for example, during the most popular period of the busójárás, from Friday to Sunday, the occupancy rate of hotels was well over 90 percent, MTÜ pointed out.
