Hungarian Tourist Agency: these 3 Hungarian settlements have done the most to strengthen tourism
At the European Flowering Towns and Villages competition, among the three starting settlements in Hungary, Székesfehérvár received a gold rating and a special award for good practice, Veresegyház received a silver rating and a presidential special award, while Orfű received a gold rating, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) announced on Wednesday with MTI.
In their press release, they highlighted: the social employment program that fits into green space maintenance was awarded with the Székesfehérvár special prize for good practice, the Veresegyház president’s special prize went to the city’s thermal water heating network, while the jury highlighted quality tourism and the sustainable use of natural and landscape features in Orfűn.
The agency indicated that the jury, headed by the Irish landscape architect Christy Boylan, consisting of representatives of the countries participating in the competition, will meet on June 17-22. visited the three Hungarian settlements, which were in competition with Austrian, Belgian, Dutch, Irish, German and Czech cities and villages in their own category.
Entente Florale Europe, the European competition for cities and villages with flowers, has been organized since 1975, and Hungary has also participated in the competition since 1990, they recalled. The gala ceremony of the competition, which was organized again this year for the first time since 2019, was held in Balatonfüred on September 24. More than 150 representatives from six countries took part in the award ceremony. MTÜ and its partner organization, the Virágos Hungary movement, were responsible for organizing and running the competition.
