According to the results of a recent, representative survey* commissioned by the Hungarian Spirits Association and Product Council (MSZSZT), more than half of Hungarian alcohol consumers aged 18–49 consume alcohol at least monthly. On average, they consume 2.4** drinks per occasion, and the amount consumed increases with the frequency of alcohol consumption. Using the trends learned in this way, the Hungarian Spirits Association and Product Council is launching an awareness-building campaign with online opinion leaders Csingisz Dordzsceren, Henrik Huszár, Lala Lackner and Emma Nagy.

How do Hungarians drink?

A national, representative survey was conducted between March 27 and April 3, 2025, commissioned by the MSZSZT, with the aim of providing a more accurate picture of the alcohol consumption habits of the Hungarian population. According to the results, Hungarians consume an average of 2.4 drinks per occasion. Although this amount may be considered moderate, individual factors such as body weight, gender and sensitivity can significantly influence the effects of alcohol.

The research also showed that regularity affects the amount consumed: those who drink more often tend to drink larger amounts on each occasion.

According to the data, more than half of those aged 18 to 49 drink alcohol at least once a month. Among younger people, aged 18 to 29, it is particularly common for consumption to be linked to social events such as parties or gatherings with friends, and larger amounts are often consumed at these times.
