Hungarian exhibitors at SIAL Paris
After a 4-year hiatus, the SIAL trade show was organised again in Paris this October. There were 265,000 visitors and 80% of these weren’t from France. On a floor space of 250,000m², more than 7,200 exhibitors from 119 countries showcased their 400,000 products and services.
43 Hungarian participants
Eleven Hungarian companies were present at the 5-day SIAL Paris with their own booth, and another 32 introduced themselves in the collective booth of the Agricultural Marketing Centre (AMC), as part of the Hungarian Food Business Programme.
Dr Beáta Felkai, deputy state secretary of food chain supervision at the Ministry of Agriculture told at the opening ceremony that being present at SIAL can help Hungarian food companies enter foreign markets. Péter Ondré, CEO of AMC said: strengthening export can bring a real breakthrough for the Hungarian food industry, and SIAL Paris offers an excellent opportunity to work for this.
In the SIAL Innovation booth the VegART product range of Szega Foods and the YogiBar product of Yic generated great attention. Until 19 October the Hungarian Food Business Programme (HFBP) had its own section in the AMC booth. This programme assists Hungarian food companies in entering export markets, and its flagship is the real time software called Hungarian Food Business Catalogue.
This platform features approximately 1,700 products of nearly 150 Hungarian food companies, and there are about 150 purchasing managers in it already. Importers from foreign countries can use it to gather information about Hungarian products free of charge, and they can also get in touch with Hungarian food companies directly.
„Own the Change”
This year this was the motto of SIAL Paris, and event director Audrey Ashworth told: it is us, we are the change. We need to understand the challenges our planet faces. Our task is to solve the problems posed by food supply and changing consumption habits.
SIAL Paris is an excellent platform for dealing with these issues, too. The SIAL Insights/Think Tank collects exclusive studies on consumer expectations, product innovation and out of home eating; the FutureLab took SIAL visitors on a journey into the future, showing what the food industry will be like in 2030.
This year also brought the debut of SIAL Start Up, where the latest food “baby businesses” had the chance to introduce themselves on 1m² each. This way visitors could get to know innovative food companies younger than 5 years. //
