Saudi Arabia’s economy is largely based on oil and is one of the world’s largest oil exporters. Its vast territory is home to 36 million people, and the country with an extremely young average age has long lived in relative isolation. However, this has changed, and since 2019 tourism has also been open, so Hungarian citizens can travel to the kingdom with a tourist visa.

However, Hungary has much greater potential in the field of economic cooperation than tourism opportunities. That is why the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK) organized a business delegation to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a supported participation opportunity between November 30 and December 3, 2025, as part of its Enterprise Development Project. The participation of small and medium-sized exporting enterprises was supported by the Ministry of National Economy.

The activities of the enterprises participating in the trip are diverse. Both product and service exporters were present. Companies operating in the technical, digital, beauty industry sectors were also represented, and of course, agricultural and food industry companies were also present.

– I think that it is almost impossible to enter a country like Saudi Arabia with a product or service that does not carry uniqueness, innovation, and exceptional quality. Everyone knows that it is a populous country, easily accessible by sea, with extraordinary purchasing power. And everyone includes the people living there, who welcome their negotiating partners with this awareness. That is why a company operating in the field of agricultural or food production, if it tries, say, milk powder, grain, or fruit platter, finds itself facing a lot of competitors. For example, we did not come mainly with egg powder or boiled eggs, but with a unique Hungarian product innovation, egg white-based dairy product substitutes. We see the market viability of these cream cheese and fruit yogurt alternatives in the local 60-80% lactose sensitivity – explained Dr. Csaba Németh, food engineer, professor, who was a member of the delegation.

The delegation’s program was extremely tight. They heard several presentations from experts about the economic environment in Saudi Arabia with the participation of Hungarian and Saudi speakers. Business opportunities, cultural differences, and good business practices were also discussed. In addition, business meetings were held.

Some of the programs:

  • visit to the Saudi Arabian Industrial Cities and Technology Zones Authority (MODON)
  • visit to SABIC, National Industrial Innovation Center
  • visit to the Industrial Transformation Saudi Arabia fair
  • Saudi-Hungarian Business Forum and B2B meetings
