With the launch of Revolut’s Hungarian branch, the service provider will soon provide users with a domestic IBAN, making it easier to receive wages and manage domestic finances. However, localization also brings about a change on the cost side: due to the burdens related to the Hungarian regulatory environment (especially the transaction fee), the company is introducing fees for certain forint transfers, meaning that the neobank may become more expensive in its role as a “primary account” for several customer segments.

New transaction fee for forint transfers over 50 thousand forints

One of the key elements of the changes related to the Hungarian branch is that a 0.45% fee will be charged for transfers over 50,000 forints (maximum 20,000 forints per transaction), while transfers up to 50,000 forints will remain free of charge.

The scheme operates with several detailed rules:

  • Transfers/transfers between Revolut users: according to Revolut, the logic of the 0.45% “special transaction fee” may appear for larger transactions after the migration is completed, but the package level and discounts also affect the actual charge.
  • New customers: according to the company’s communication, they may take over the fee from customers for a while during the transition of the introduction.
  • Existing customers: fees will take effect after transferring to the Hungarian branch.

Package-dependent discounts: Premium/Metal limit, Ultra “unlimited”

The package level can significantly modify the costs: according to public summaries, the Premium and Metal packages do not charge transaction fees up to 1 million forints per month, while the Ultra package is more fee-free (Revolut’s fee schedule indicates a “free” category for transfers, with special pricing and discount mechanics depending on the Hungarian migration).

Currency exchange: more favorable weekend conditions may come in paid packages

The changes are not only visible in transfers: the weekend currency exchange surcharge may vary depending on the package, and in paid packages, according to domestic communication, the burden of the weekend surcharge may be reduced (this is especially important for those who use Revolut for travel or foreign currency spending).

What does this mean in practice?

With the Hungarian IBAN, Revolut can become a more convenient “main account” (salary, domestic transfers), but for regular, larger domestic transfers, a cost element may appear that For some customer profiles, traditional bank account packages may be more competitive. However, Revolut is also available as a secondary account – a card accountfor shopping, currency exchange, travel, “sending money” – it can still remain a strong offer.
