Magazin: Their daily bread – part 3
The National Public Health and Medical Officer Service’s dietary health recommendations made it possible to lay the foundations of giving healthy food to children in the future. Semmelweis University’s primary school is a good example in this respect: last year they introduced a new catering system with a wide range of available dishes (displayed on the school website with photos) and a flexible online food ordering system. Parents select the dishes for their children online and also pay this way – they can even cancel them on the internet 24 hours before a meal is due. They can also pay in cash if they wish. Eurest Kft., the service provider offers 3 menus every day (one of them is vegetarian), and the different dishes can be combined by the children. After 14:00 the remaining food is distributed among those who still feel hungry. Another great idea: at the Herman Ottó primary school in Budaörs bread and salads are available in a buffet system, so children only takes as much as they eat, so less food is wasted – children have to learn the culture of eating already at an early age.
