Magazine: Nationwide ‘store census’ from January until the end of March
The colleagues from Nielsen will personally visit all food shops and HoReCa units in every town with a population above 10,000, where the managers or their representatives will fill out a standardised questionnaire – informs Norbert Molnár, client business partner – group manager at Nielsen, who coordinates the census. He told that the census serves the development of retail as manufacturing companies can get to know stores where they are not present with their products yet. Once new business partnerships are established, these retail units will be able offer a wider selection of products to their customers. The list will include the name, address, type, floor space and location description of units, and the information whether they are operated individually or as part of a chain. Nielsen’s last census was conducted four years ago, when they cooperated with 42,000 food shops and 36,000 HoReCa units in compiling a precise list of all the units in the bigger towns of the country. A new survey has become timely by now as the network of stores is changing rapidly: in 1999 there were 25,236 general food stores but last year they counted only 19,569 – obviously, changes have to be tracked.
