Magazine: ALDI: 100 stores, popular and successful in-store bakeries
2014 was a milestone in the life of ALDI in Hungary, for instance the retailer expanded its product selection by 20 percent. ALDI Hungary also continued the building of in-store bakeries, next to which so-called Coolboxes were placed with refreshments, salads and desserts. At the moment there are in-store bakeries in 100 ALDI stores. Tibor Székács, the managing director of ALDI Hungary told our magazine that they had invested HUF 3 billion in this project. At the moment the retail chain employs 1,800 people, from which nearly 300 are newly recruited. Last year the company earned the Superbrands 2014 recognition. The retail chain contributed to the fight against breast cancer with its Go Pink initiative: with the help of customers HUF 600,000 was collected for the Hungarian League Against Cancer. In another programme ALDI donated HUF 3 million to the Bravery Camp foundation that helps ill children. In May 2015 ALDI started displaying healthier products in the checkout zones of all Hungarian ALDI stores. With fitness world champion Alexandra Béres as the patron of the programme, they also launched a health campaign and started supporting children’s programme Choose the Best Sport for You.
