Magazine: The 112th member
András Borsi is the 112th member of MVI and still remembers the general assembly meetings with one thousand participants in the early 1990s. He thinks that today the organisation is managed by a handful of enthusiastic professionals, who try to represent both the trade and members.
Mr Borsi’s view is that MVI should focus more on representing the trade. He thinks that the SZÉP card system is more flexible and cheaper than the previous cafeteria system. In his opinion the introduction of the compulsory daily stock taking of alcoholic beverages in bars and restaurants was wrong and he thinks the same about the law on excise duty. Why? Because a more realistic tax burden on micro- and small businesses would have resulted in a more transparent economy. Currently András Borsi is the vice-president of MVI’s South West Hungary region and is also member of the Ethics Committee. As for his own business, he has been the owner of Hintaló, a children-friendly restaurant in Siófok, since 1992. At the moment the place is undergoing a complete overhaul. In the same street there are 10 restaurants and 4-5 years ago Mr Borsi raised the idea of turning the street into a ‘Street of Flavours’ in cooperation with the other owners, creating its own website and starting a media campaign, plus developing a system of discounts for guests. Unfortunately the plans were never realised, due to lack of interests from restaurant owners and the estimated costs
