The African swine fever epidemic situation in Croatia continues to worsen, so the animal health authority has decided to establish a high-risk area in Baranya County, near the Hungarian border. This covers a total of 15 game management units. Compliance with disease control regulations is key to the effectiveness of the control.

In Croatia, African swine fever (ASF) was confirmed in domestic pig herds in the municipalities of Jagodnjak and Bolman in July. Subsequently, in the week of July 21, the Croatian authorities identified two outbreaks in wild boar near the Hungarian border, on the outskirts of Jagodnjak and Valpovo.

The confirmed outbreak in two wild boars occurred within a 20 km zone from the Hungarian border

In response to the unfavourable and continuously deteriorating ASF epidemic situation in Croatia, the Hungarian veterinary authority decided to designate the territory of Baranya County as a high-risk area for ASF. The newly established high-risk area includes 15 game management units.

The provisions set out in the annexes to the National Chief Veterinary Officer’s Decision No. 5/2025 must be fully complied with in the territory of all game management units

These provisions are included in the African swine fever eradication plan of Hungary and are applied in accordance with its risk classification. The measures apply – in addition to the wild boar population – to all domestic pig populations kept in this area.
