Toxic Waste brand flavored popsicles recalled due to high glycerin content
Toxic Waste brand flavored ice pops have been recalled due to high glycerin content, the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) announced.
They added that glycerin is a widely used additive in food, but in this case its level in the affected products exceeds the limit value considered safe by the BfR (German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment), so a health risk for sensitive consumers (such as children) cannot be ruled out.
Therefore, the authority requests that anyone who has purchased a 250 milliliter package of Toxic Waste Sour Slushy, blue raspberry, lemon & lime, or apple flavored ice pops, not consume it.
According to the announcement, based on a notification received through the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed Safety (RASFF), the high glycerin content in the flavored ice pops was detected during an official inspection. The product also reached Hungary through a Dutch importer.
The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority contacted the affected company, BTDM Kft., without delay, which, in cooperation with the NKFH, immediately took the necessary measures and recalled the affected items from consumers.
The authority is monitoring the measures taken by the company and the further fate of the recalled products (destruction or removal) – the NKFH statement reads.
