Madosz: tobacco production is worse than last year
Tobacco production in 2018 is expected to be lower and worse than last year. Due to the drought, producers expect a loss of 10-15 percent on average – the Hungarian Association of Hungarian Tobacco Producers (Madosz) told MTI.
According to Bényei Illés, “a huge drought on tobacco plantations” and the dry and hot summer weather was a major concern in non-irrigated areas. In the case of the Burley type of tobacco, there are very few irrigable areas, and about 65-70 percent of the Virginia plantations can be irrigated. (MTI)
