China bans Spanish poultry imports due to bird flu
China has temporarily banned imports of Spanish poultry and related products due to the bird flu outbreak, Reuters reported. The Spanish agriculture ministry said the decision had no immediate impact on trade between the two countries.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding in April that would allow the export of certain poultry products, including turkey meat and chicken feet, to China. However, Spanish companies’ applications for export permits are still being processed, so actual shipments of the affected goods have not yet begun.
The ministry added that it was monitoring the situation closely and expressed hope that the ban would be lifted soon as measures to combat bird flu were in place.
