Avian flu: restrictions may end in early March
Since the end of January no evidence of avian influenza infection was detected in poultry and if this trend stays, at the beginning of March all the protection and surveillance zones can be opened – Bognár Lajos national chief veterinarian told at a professional conference – the National Agricultural Economics Association (NAK) informed MTI on Thursday.
Bognár Lajos, who is also the Deputy Minsiter of State of the Ministry of Agriculture (FM) told that the H5N8 avian influenza virus was detected in 231 farms. Due to the epidemic 3.2 million poultry had to be killed, of which about 80 percent were waterfowl (ducks and geese). (MTI)
