An outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed in the Hajdú-Bihar county of Nébih
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) confirmed the presence of a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in the county of Hajdú-Bihar. The liquidation of the affected stock has already begun, based on the suspicion. The latest outbreak proves that it is extremely important for poultry farmers to strictly comply with the epidemiological regulations.

The virus was identified in a breeding duck farm with about 22,500 ducks located in Hajdúnánás, Hajdú-Bihar county. The animal keeper suspected bird flu because of the increased mortality, reduced feed and water consumption, and a drastic drop in egg production. The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the dead animals.
The authorities started to liquidate the stock – already based on the suspicion
A protection zone with a radius of 3 km was designated around the affected farm, and a surveillance (observation) zone with a radius of 10 km was defined. An epidemiological investigation is underway to reveal the causes of the appearance of the disease. Nébih continues to ask livestock keepers to strictly comply with epidemic prevention regulations, since poultry flocks can only be protected from infection with a responsible attitude. It is particularly important that in the counties identified as high risk, in the case of economic flocks, poultry must be kept indoors, animals must be fed and watered indoors, and feed and bedding material must also be stored indoors. In order to protect the animals and prevent infection, it is important to pay special attention to the traffic of people and vehicles, as well as to the thorough and continuous disinfection of feed transport vehicles.
