Bird flu in England
The authorities have now culled more than 5000 birds on the Redgrave Park farm, near the town of Diss in Suffolk.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
(DEFRA) in the UK has confirmed that the cause of turkey deaths at a farm in
England was the highly pathogenic bird flu virus H5N1. The department has
revealed that it is the same virus that has been moving across Eurasia and has
claimed 206 lives to date, mainly in Asia. The initial sequence data suggests
that it's closely related to outbreaks in the Czech Republic and Germany.
