The outbreak of avian influenza virus has required the destruction of a hen farm in Seini, Maramureş county – the Romanian Department of Animal Health (DSVSA) announced on Wednesday.
Of the 18,700 livestock hens specialized in egg production, more than 11,000 have been killed in recent days due to the virus. The official investigation revealed the H5N8 subtype of the disease. The DSVSA ordered the destruction and burning of the remaining stock and designated a protection zone within a radius of 3 kilometers and a surveillance zone within a radius of 10 kilometers. (MTI)
