Today we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity
For the Ministry of Agriculture, the preservation of biological diversity is extremely important, which is why last year, together with the National Center for Biodiversity and Gene Conservation, it launched the attitude-shaping initiative “Landscape breed and farm animal of the year”, thereby drawing attention to the importance of preserving our unique and varied genetic values.

The Convention on Biological Diversity is the most comprehensive international agreement to preserve our earth’s biodiversity. Its significance is that it spurs the countries of the world to action and cooperation in order to preserve the diversity of the living world – that is, natural habitats, species and genetic values within species – in the long term.
Biodiversity ensures the stability and adaptability of our environment and thus makes the Earth a habitable place for humans
Healthy functioning biological systems provide us with, among other things, healthy food, natural pharmaceutical ingredients and other raw materials, potable water, clean air, and a calm and recreational habitat. Undisturbed ecosystems play a role in avoiding natural disasters, epidemics and diseases, mitigating their harmful effects, and also in regulating the climate.
On the occasion of World Day, May 26-29. In Balatonfüred, thanks to the National Center for Biodiversity and Gene Preservation, visitors can get to know the landscape variety of the year, the Illmiczi barley, and the farm animal of the year, the copper turkey, in a playful way.
