In the latest round of K&H’s highly successful influencer campaign, participants cooked three-course meals, applied savings tricks, and in the process experienced firsthand the compromises that can come with living in old age. Just like last year, the series was popular this year as well, with influencers registering more than 3.5 million views. Through this, many people were able to get a real picture of how important self-care is, including saving for old age.

How long would your budget last if you suddenly had to live off your average pension? Influencers well-known on social media have now experienced firsthand what it means to live on an average of 224,000 forints per month. K&H’s campaign has proven once again that financial awareness is not only about the future, but also about everyday decisions. This is not the first time the campaign has stirred up emotions: K&H ran its influencer challenge with great success last year, and this year it has taken the game to a new level, reaching out to even more young people and involving them in everyday financial thinking.

The three-course menu plays a major role

For the final week, the content producers were given a tough task: they had to prepare a three-course lunch or dinner for four people, of course, using their pension funds. The results were varied: one of them picked fresh vegetables from their grandmother’s vegetable garden, another selected from the special shelves of stores, and some took the recipe for the classic turkey dish, turbocharged with smoked bacon and garlic.

The menu items were also really varied: soup, cucumber salad, tiramisu, broth, potato pasta or plum pie – everyone tried to get the most out of the limited budget. Some people managed to cook a three-course dinner for just 4,500 forints, while others managed to cook for four people for 13,000 forints. So there was plenty of room for creativity.

Savings and tricks instead of luxury

The challenge highlighted how different the reality is for those who live on pensions, in addition to their usual lifestyle. Instead of festivals and entertainment venues, free programs were given priority, and instead of expensive restaurants, home-cooked dinners were given priority. For example, one influencer got a loaf of brown bread for 60 forints, which he stored in the freezer so that he always used only as much as he needed – a typical savings trick that many pensioners have been using for a long time.

Traveling during the summer was not easy either: in Corfu, for example, meals and car rental had to be paid for from reserves, so each expense was given much greater weight than in a “normal month”. Most participants agreed that the challenge opened their eyes and showed them the awareness needed to live their retirement years safely.
