London analysts: tourism might lose four times as much as after the 2001 terrorist attacks
The spread of the new type of coronavirus could cause tourism to drop nearly four times the size of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, causing thousands of billions of dollars in losses – according to a study released on Friday by a leading London macroeconomic analyst.
The Center for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) recalled that tourism fell globally by 7.4 percent in the two years after the 2001 attacks. CEBR said that model calculations show that global passenger traffic in the second quarter of this year is likely to be 50 percent lower, 30 percent in the third quarter, and 10 percent in the fourth quarter, which is critical for the peak tourist season.
