Amazon experiencing bottlenecks in logistics
Ecommerce giant Amazon is currently having capacity problems in its logistics centers in Europe. It is now warning sellers that it cannot accept all shipments. This means that merchants might have issues getting their inventory to the marketplace in time for the holidays.
The online marketplace announced its bottlenecks in logistics on its SellerCentral. As Amazon’s logistics center have reached capacity, the company said that there can be delays in booking merchant’s inventories.
“We will arrange the next available delivery appointment with your carrier”
The capacity bottlenecks affect Amazon’s logistics centers in several countries. The company mentions Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Czech Republic and Poland. “If we are unable to accept your shipment, we will arrange the next available appointment directly with your carrier. We know how important the receipt of your inventory is for the holiday season and are working to resolve these capacity bottlenecks as quickly as possible”, said the marketplace.
Bottlenecks not unexpected
The ecommerce giant was already expecting bottlenecks during the busiest ecommerce season. In July, Amazon already advised sellers to send inventory for the holiday season to logistics centers by August and September. That way, it could focus on processing customer orders during November and December.
And in October, the marketplace also announced that it was temporarily extending the deadline for return periods to customers. This would give consumers more time to return items, which means spreading the influx of returned items to logistics centers.
DHL deliveries suspended in Germany
In response to the announcement on the SellerCentral, many merchants still have questions about what happens to their inventory. In Germany, Amazon has already suspended incoming deliveries from DHL. Because of that, the carrier is now returning affected shipments to sellers, until further notice. In their own words, Amazon and DHL are now working on a solution.
