Logistics Day 2026: the logistics sector is in focus again in April
In 2026, continuing the tradition of past years, Logistics Day will be held again, which will take place on April 16 this year. The initiative, which has a history of nearly two decades, is also receiving serious attention in our country, especially at a time when the operation of the global economy is being shaped by successive logistical challenges.
Global events focus attention on logistics
In recent years, international supply chains have faced numerous challenges: the economic restructuring following the coronavirus pandemic, regional conflicts, and uncertainties affecting international trade routes have all highlighted the vulnerability of logistics systems. The tensions in the Middle East and the uncertainty surrounding strategically important sea routes – including the Strait of Hormuz, a key point in global energy trade – have once again shown how crucial stable transport and supply processes play in the functioning of the global economy.
“The impact of such events is not only evident in maritime transport. The development of energy prices, changes in transport costs and the reorganization of supply chains can be felt indirectly in Europe and Hungary as well”
– said Dr. Zoltán Doór, President of the Hungarian Logistics Association (MLE), who added that all this ultimately also affects the operation of urban freight transport and the so-called last-mile delivery.
Hungary has been celebrating Logistics Day for 14 years
Logistics Day is an initiative that started in Germany, where it has been organized since 2007. Hungary first joined the German Logistics Association (BVL) program five years later, in 2012. Most people identify logistics primarily with the transport of goods, but the field is much more complex than that: the planning, operation and optimization of supply chains are one of the fundamental pillars of the modern economy. That is why they started organizing this event every April, which aims to bring the world of logistics closer to the profession and the wider public. In addition to Germany, related programs are now organized in many countries, including Hungary, where they usually join the initiative with different programs.
“Logistics Day is an important occasion for both those working in logistics and those interested in the field. At such times, professional organizations, higher education institutions and competitive market players organize programs that provide an opportunity to exchange experiences and present current trends. Professionals can update their knowledge, and those interested can gain insight into the operation of logistics”
– emphasized the president of the Hungarian Logistics Association (MLE). He added that the Association has been taking an active role in organizing programs for years, and for several years together with Hungary’s largest private university.
Logistics Day to be celebrated with a full-day program at METU on April 16
Building on the success of recent years, the Hungarian Logistics Association (MLE) and the Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) are preparing a joint professional program for Logistics Day this year as well. As part of this, the Last-Mile Logistics Conference will be organized for the third time. The program will be held on the METU campus on April 16. The last-mile is the final stage of the supply chain, when the product reaches the final consumer from the local distribution center. Due to the rapid growth of e-commerce, this area is now one of the most dynamically developing and challenging parts of the supply chain, which is why it has been in focus for several years on this occasion. Strengthening industry cooperation and the transfer of practice-oriented knowledge, which is directly related to the current challenges of the sector, play a prominent role in the business and logistics training of Budapest Metropolitan University.
