The Skanzen is preparing for St. Martin’s Day with goose dishes, Hungarian wines and concerts
The Szentendre Skanzen welcomes you with products from local wineries, goose dishes, crafts, and children with stories and concerts at the Szent Márton New Wine Festival and Libator program on November 9 and 10.
The day of St. Martin, who became a proselytizing bishop from a soldier, is celebrated in the countries of Western Europe with lantern processions, and in Hungary with feasts and entertainment, Skanzen said in a statement on Friday.
At the St. Martin’s Day event of the open-air museum, visitors can learn interesting facts about the origins of the goose cult, but they can also glimpse the atmosphere of cheerful autumn community work. The Lajta Folk Dance Ensemble of Mosonmagyaróvár enlivens the atmosphere of the St. Martin’s Day festivities in the museum’s Little Region. The program will be enriched by the performance of the Langaléta Garaboncians, but there will also be storytelling and projection, a historical-literary wine workshop, a fair of autumn delicacies and handicrafts, and goose dishes await visitors in the Skanzen Restaurant.
In the handicraft sessions, among many others, the children can make a textile goose and pumpkin, autumn earrings, a picture of a crop or a toy figure from chestnuts, but the creation of lanterns for the afternoon St. Martin’s Day parade cannot be missed either.
In addition to the evening tour in the footsteps of St. Martin, those interested can also take part in a gastronomic walk. The tour, which focuses on sustainable cuisine, will bring the flavors of autumn close to the visitors, in addition to autumn-winter food preparation and preservation procedures and related objects.
