The GVH’s investigation into CCC’s price marking practice has been concluded: the problems will be remedied with commitments
The Competition Council of the Economic Competition Office (GVH) accepted CCC Kft.’s commitments and closed the proceedings against it without establishing a violation. Already during the procedure, CCC eliminated the objectionable price display practice and undertook to communicate its promotions in a more transparent and consumer-friendly way in the future. The goal of the GVH is that consumers can clearly understand the true extent of promotions and discounts and make informed decisions – writes Pénzcentrum.
In 2023, the GVH launched competition supervision proceedings against three domestic online clothing and shoe retailers, including CCC. The CCC investigation was the first to be closed by the authority. The focus of the investigation was how the company displays the discounts and whether the prices displayed during the promotions give consumers a real basis for comparison.
CCC’s commitments and GVH’s expectations
CCC, in cooperation with GVH, undertook to display only two prices for sale products in the future: the currently discounted price and the lowest price 30 days earlier, as required by the price order. This helps consumers understand exactly how much discount they are getting.
The company has also committed to advertising its sale products for a maximum of 60 days in case of permanent markdowns, and if there is a further price reduction, the product will receive another 60 days in the sale category. This prevents permanent markdowns from becoming misleading and provides consumers with real savings.
The company also undertook not to refer to the lowest price of the 30 days before the very first sale in the event of multiple discounts, thus guaranteeing that consumers get a realistic idea of the extent of the discounts.
