Import pushes pork prices down
Domestic pig farmers are already moaning about the effects of the African swine fever (ASF) in Germany, which has reduced the purchase price of live pigs to around 350 HUF per kilogram. Two weeks ago, the price of live pigs in Germany fell from 1.27 to 1.19 euros, and the decline was immediately reflected in Hungary, as large buyers adjust their prices to those of Germany – Oláh Endre, Chief Adviser of the National Association of Agricultural Cooperatives and Producers, told Világgazdaság.
