Retail sales growth accelerated in Poland and unemployment fell in April
In Poland, retail sales in April accelerated strongly in April, the most since May 2022, after a decline in March, while unemployment decreased compared to March.
Retail sales increased by 7.6 percent year-on-year in April, following a 0.3 percent decline in March, the Polish Statistical Office (GUS) said on Monday.
The significant increase was partly due to a 14.9 percent increase in car sales and a 9.7 percent increase in food, beverages and tobacco sales.
Retail sales expanded by 6.2 percent month-on-month in April, the strongest growth since May 2020 after a 0.6 percent decline in March.
Also on Monday, the statistical office reported that unemployment fell to 5.2 percent in April from 5.3 percent in March.
Last April, the rate was lower, at 5.1 percent.
In April this year, the number of registered unemployed people decreased by 27,200 to 802,700 compared to March.
