A large Polish company has acquired the largest Moldovan wine exporter
Polish Maspex has acquired the largest Moldovan wine exporter, Purcari Wineries, economedia.ro reported, based on data from the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) and brokerage platforms.
Maspex, through its Romanian subsidiary, purchased 28.77 million Purcari shares, a 71.18 percent stake, at a price of 21 lei (1,650.6 forints). The transaction is worth 604.3 million lei (about 47.5 billion forints). The Polish company previously held a 1.62 percent stake in the company.
Purcari is Moldova’s leading winery in terms of bottled wine exports. The company cultivates grapes on 1,450 hectares and has seven production units in the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.
The company was listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) in 2018. Purcari’s market value is estimated at 843 million lei (about 66 billion forints), and according to BVB data, its shares have increased in value by 44 percent this year.
Maspex is one of the largest food companies in Central Europe, with its products distributed in more than 60 countries. The company has been present on the Romanian market since 1996. It previously acquired three Romanian companies, dry pasta manufacturer Arnos, bakery products manufacturer Pan Group, and mineral water sector operator Rio Bucovina.
Maspex Romania, which employs more than 1,700 people, achieved a pre-tax profit of 177.6 million lei (about 14 billion forints) in 2024, with a turnover of 1.257 billion lei (about 98 billion forints).
