The price of red onions in the Polish wholesale did not move from the lowest point either markets: after a price decline since the beginning of the season, there was a 12–13% correction in the fall, but this did not trigger a lasting increase.

The price of bagged, wholesale onion for eating continues to range between PLN 0.7–1.1/kg (approx. HUF 65–102/kg), the average is around PLN 0.9/kg (approx. HUF 83/kg) – this is the average for the past five years one of the lowest levels.

According to experts quoted by FruitVeB, due to the significant imports, a significant price increase is unlikely in the short term: in the coming weeks, Dutch import pressure may also increase, because Dutch exporters may increasingly divert shipments from Africa to Europe. An encouraging sign is that the purchase price of cleaned (peeled) onions has increased again, with processors paying around PLN 1.2–1.25/kg (approx. HUF 111–116/kg) – however, cost pressure in the processing industry and imports from outside the EU (especially cheap, frozen onions) continue to pull the market down.
