Vodka and bitters overtook pálinka
Vodka and bitters overtook pálinka on the domestic market of spirits in 2012 – writes [origo], after Magyar Nemzet. The change is due to the excise tax increase.
Until 2011, pálinka led the retail sales of spirits in the national retailing on the base of volume. But in 2012 vodka overtook pálinka, even bitters overtook it. The change is primarily due to the fact that due to the excise tax changes, the previously 30 percent plum spirit is listed as plum flavoured 37.5 percent vodka. [origo]
