Energy by converting meat waste into heat and energy
5,000 tonnes of out of date meat by Tesco converted into enough electricity to power 600 homes in UK.
Tesco is supplying
energy to customers through a new venture, which allows the chain's
meat waste to be converted into heat and electricity. The initiative
has seen PDM Group pick up Tesco’s meat waste, converting it into
electricity in its biomass to energy plants.
The deal with Tesco
is one of a number of contracts PDM already has with other retailers,
food manufacturers and caterers, bringing the amount of food waste
the company converts into renewable energy to 1.5 million tonnes.
