Last Sardine Plant in Norway to Close Down
A weak dollar exchange rate and lost earnings mean forced King Oscar to finish production.
The plant produces more than seven million tins of sardines a year and more than 70 per cent of these are destined for the US market. The plant is to close on April 30 this year. Production will be transferred to King Oscar’s plant at Gniewino in Poland, which currently has 400 employees.
Davanger was the last sardine plant in Norway, but King Oscar will continue to sell sardines from the Norwegian fjords.
