The Hungarian medicinal and aromatic herbs industry is looking for opportunities
Medicinal and aromatic herbs are cultivated on about 18 thousand hectares in Hungary, contrary to the 37 – 42 thousand hectares of the 1990s – said Mártonffy Béla, Chairman of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organisation and Product Board (FruitVeB), and Secretary General of the Hungarian Horticultural Council.
However, encouraging signs occur in the sextor – added Czirbus Zoltán, President of the Herbal Products Association and Council. For example, the chamomile of the the Great Plains was included to the list of protected EU products recently. Usually an annual 500-600 tons are collected from this herb. (MTI)
