Everyone should have a notebook and a pen for the start of the school year – Westend is organizing a charity event
Westend started a joint collection of school supplies with the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service. In the campaign, which runs until September 17, they are looking for tools necessary for learning, such as a school bag, pen holder, notebooks, stationery, but there is also a great need for a ruler or sharpener.
Donations are collected at the Westend ReStore, which the aid organization delivers in several rounds to families who have an insurmountable financial burden to send their children to school. The start of school and the purchase of appropriate school supplies are a serious burden for parents every year, especially for families with several children living in a difficult situation. Children growing up in the poorest settlements not only can’t choose the tools they like, but they can also often be at a disadvantage in school because they don’t have a notebook, colored pencils or a ruler. The Hungarian Maltese Charity maintains 15 public education institutions, and its primary schools are attended almost exclusively by children from cumulatively disadvantaged situations. Perhaps the most important mission of the charitable organization is to ensure that their fate is not determined by their circumstances. This is a lengthy process, but at the given moment, a new or good condition and carefully cleaned pen holder, a full set of colored pencils or a clean, white pair of sneakers can play a huge role in it. Most of the children have never had high-quality, new equipment.
