Munkácsy’s Ecce Homo painting is being built from LEGO bricks in Debrecen

One of the paintings from Mihály Munkács’ Christ trilogy, the work titled Ecce Homo, will be built from LEGO bricks in Debrecen – the press service of the Déri Museum informed MTI on Monday.

In their announcement, they wrote that students from several Debrecen elementary schools and interested families will create a paraphrase of the monumental painting using 155,000 LEGO bricks from November 11 to December 13.

The largest creation to date, built from more than one hundred and fifty-five thousand LEGO bricks, shows the power of playful learning and community cooperation.

With this initiative, they would like to arouse students’ interest in museums and the world of art – they added.

According to the announcement, the unique project is a collaboration between the Déri Museum in Debrecen, the LEGO Manufacturing Kft. in Nyíregyháza, the Wesselényi Museum in Nyíregyháza Miklós Technical School and College Tekerd! group, the Debrecen Community Center, the Nyíregyháza Vocational Training Center, and Debrecen students – including children with hearing impairments and speech disorders – are working together.

The students at the Debrecen school sites will participate in the Tekerd! group in Nyíregyháza. According to the method developed by the group, the image units are laid out based on small color and tone maps, which are recorded on the boards by the young people of the professional team – they indicated.
