The pasta factory of AsiaFood burnt down in Verpelét
On 16 December 2014, at 22:30 a fire broke out in one of the halls of the Asiafood Kft. in the Verpelét plant. During the afternoon shift, a total of 22 people were working, who called the fire department, and then tried to stop the fire with powder extinguishers, but they did not succeed, and left the building because of the huge smoke. As the result of the high temperatures, the production hall’s windows exploded and fire spread to other parts of the plant. Fortunately no personal injuries occured.
Pál István, director of Asiafood’s plant said that as a result of the fire in the machines and equipments of the factory and the stored raw materials and the finished products were destroyed. According to the preliminary estimates the damage may reach billions of forints, but exact figures will be available only after a detailed damage assessment. He added that the tragedy causes huge losses to the parent company. The plant was operating at full capacity, thye continually increased their market share and further developments were planned in the coming years. Currently, 220 people worked at the factory.
Soon, a crisis staff will be set from the owners and experts from the authorities, who will determine the future of the Asiafood’s Verpelét plant.
