Csaba Latorcai: the good development at Lake Balaton that helps both the people living there and the holidaymakers
A good development in the Balaton region is one that brings both development and an improvement in the quality of life for those living there twelve months of the year, but also helps those who go there on holiday – stated the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Regional Development, speaking to the public media on Thursday in Balatonfüred, following a roundtable discussion at the Infotér Contech 2025 Conference.
Csaba Latorcai emphasized that more and more people are choosing Balaton as their home, more than a hundred thousand people live in the Balaton area. They must be helped to ensure that the appropriate basic infrastructures – drinking water, sewage, electricity – are provided, and in addition, job opportunities must be created that ensure a decent living – he said.
If the livelihood and quality of life of those living in the region are guaranteed, then it is also guaranteed that there will be busy hands in tourism and hospitality – the state secretary emphasized.
During the roundtable discussion, Csaba Latorcai also mentioned that since the coronavirus epidemic, the number of people living there as a way of life has noticeably increased in the Balaton region, especially in the eastern basin. Therefore, infrastructure development is also necessary
– he pointed out.
He added: you can see the surrounding economic centers, on the northern shore this is the Veszprém-Balatonfüred axis, in the western basin Keszthely, while on the southern shore Siófok, however, there are sections of the coast where special attention should be paid to job creation.
He indicated: the ministry is improving the housing conditions of those operating public services with the service housing construction program. This program may later be worth expanding to other regions with a shortage of specialists, noted Csaba Latorcai.
Zoltán Nyul, Deputy State Secretary for Building Construction at the Ministry of Construction and Transport, said: the accessibility of the Balaton region by road and rail has improved dramatically in recent years, and the bicycle path network has also been developed.
He emphasized: in addition to tourism investments, developments serving everyday life are also needed in the region to have functioning and livable cities at Balaton.
